This Mother's Day, Zumba for the Cure
A Kimberton-based instructor will lead a Zumba warm up before Sunday's Race for the Cure.
When it comes to cancer, Jana Kent-Dewald doesn’t dance around the issue. She dances right through it.
The Kimberton-based exercise instructor and her class, Zumba Fitness with Jana—who have together raised tens of thousands of dollars to fight the disease—will lead a Zumba warm up before this Sunday’s annual Susan G. Komen foundation Race for the Cure.
“Cancer pisses me off,” said the frank Kent-Dewald, who says the cause is, for her, personal: three members of her mother’s side of the family have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Rather than stew though, she’s decided to do something about it. In October of 2010, after her 42-year-old cousin died of complications from the disease, the fifty-something started a “Zumbathon” with her group—a series of classes in the exercise that sent all proceeds to the Komen Foundation.
This year the goal of the” Zumbathon” was to raise $5,000. To date, Kent-Dewald and her group have brought in over $12,000.

“This isn’t about me,” she said. “It’s affected all of us.”
Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness workout. Kent-Dewald will lead the warm up at 7:45 a.m. on the race’s main stage.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is a 5K Race, the proceeds of which go to raising awareness of breast cancer. Sunday will mark its 22nd running.
