Valley Park Road Reopens Months Ahead of Schedule

A bridge rehabilitation project wrapped up in Schuylkill Township.

Carrying more than 1,000 people per day, a bridge on Valley Park Road closed on June 20.

It reopened Friday, three months ahead of the schedule set by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. A span of Valley Park Road was closed between Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Jug Hollow Road for the bridge repair. The bridge goes over the Pickering Creek.

“Crews will work over the next five months to rehabilitate the stone masonry arch and piers, install concrete sidewalls, replace guide rail, and extend the wing walls,” a PennDOT press release in June stated.

While work was being done, traffic was detoured over Country Club Road and Route 23.

The project was part of a $7.5 million bridge repair package aimed at fixing nine bridges in Chester and Delaware counties. Contractor J.D. Eckman Inc. worked on the project, which was funded with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
