Wild Windy Weather in Phoenixville

PECO is reporting power outages throughout the region.

Driving was hazardous Friday, but not because of slick roads.

Throughout the Phoenixville area, wind gusts turned anything not nailed down into a missile. Small trees and limbs stood no chance, and debris dotted roadways throughout the area. On Nutt Road this afternoon, two recycling bins skirted across the road, and cars dodged them. One unlucky driver navigated Nutt Road with a very large piece of cardboard plastered to the front bumper and hood of the sedan.

PECO reported more than 3,500 power outages in Chester County and the same for Montgomery County.

“We are expecting strong winds with gusts of more than 55 mph to move through our region between noon today and midnight tonight, potentially damaging electric equipment and causing power outages,” the company said on its Web site. “PECO has activated its emergency response organization and has a full contingent of crews and contractors ready to respond to any problems that may be caused by this weather.”

Residents are reminded to steer clear of downed wires.

The Montgomery County incident feed was filled with reports of road obstructions as trees came down and scattered across roadways.

The National Weather Service has a high wind warning in effect for Chester County until midnight Friday. A flood watch has been lifted.

“Widespread power outages are possible,” the warning states. “Downed trees and tree limbs may damage structures and vehicles. The wind will make driving difficult, especially on bridges and overpasses.”
