Speck Wins Mayoral Race In Close Phoenixville Contest
Turnout played critical role in tight race
Democrat Michael Speck will be the next mayor of Phoenixville following a close race.
Speck defeated Republican Ken Buckwalter by 29 votes. There were seven write-in votes
Speck will take the over the job from Democrat Leo Scoda who decided not to seek a fifth term as Mayor.
"I want to thank all the voters and the Phoenixville Democratic Committee," Speck told Phoenixville Patch in a brief phone interview once the unofficial results were tallied. Speck congratulated Buckwalter for "running a hardfought race"
Speck is currently on the Borough Council representing the East Ward. He will continue to serve in that position until his swearing in in January. Council will appoint a new representative for the East Ward once Speck is sworn in as mayor.
