The "Don" Ron Tompkins Story Slam

This month’s theme is The Paranormal: Stories of the Other Side. We encourage you to share stories about experiences you've had with the other side – ghosts, the supernatural, different perspectives, the afterlife, the enemy… There are many ways to experience 'the other side;' tell us yours!

The “Don” Ron Tompkins Story Slam is named after longtime Steel City patron, writer, artist and open mic storyteller Ron Tompkins. The competition is based on a poetry slam format and is similar to American Idol. Participants sign up to tell a five- to seven-minute true short story based on a theme. The storytellers must tell a story, without the use of notes, and they will be judged on how well they present the story and how they are able to connect to the audience. The winner will be determined by audience vote. A prize of $25 will be awarded to the winner. Advance registration is not required for this event. A full list of rules and guidelines are listed on the event page at the Steel City website.
