"The Giver" Production at Valley Forge Christian College

Opening this November at Valley Forge Christian College is the compelling story of a world of grey, shattered by a single voice, “The Giver”; based on the book by Lois Lowry, adapted for stage by Eric Coble.

Curtain Call, a VFCC college-approved student club, was created in 2003 by a group of students who felt a need on campus for artistic expression in the theatre arts. Throughout its history, Curtain Call has produced over 20 productions, and sponsored numerous Comedy Improve nights. Curtain Call continues in its original purpose: "To impact our campus and community for God's glory through both secular and Christian theatre."

Curtain Call is especially excited for this year’s fall show: “The Giver”, by Eric Coble, based on the book by Lois Lowry.  Jonas' world is perfect. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. But when Jonas becomes a 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver—to receive and keep the memories of the community. The Giver is the only person who holds the memories of real pain and real joy. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life—and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Through this astonishing and moving adaptation, discover how one voice of change, trapped in a sea of sameness, can rise up and makes a difference in his community. Dramatic, moving, and inspiring, “The Giver” is a must see for people of all ages.  The show will be directed by VFCC students Kathleen Bird and Maranatha Purring.  Both students have had extensive experience in the theater at Valley Forge and are so excited to be a part of this incredible show and brilliant cast.
