Ursinus College Choir and Meistersingers to Perform Henry Purcell's Opera "Dido and Aeneas"

The
Ursinus College Choir and Meistersingers will offer a concert performance of Henry
Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas on Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Bomberger Auditorium.
The event is free and open to the public.

The story for Dido and Aeneas
was adapted from part of The Aeneid
by Virgil. Dido, Queen of Carthage, falls in love with Aeneas, who lands in
Carthage after fleeing from Troy after defeat in the Trojan War. However, some
witches who dislike Dido try to convince Aeneas that he must leave because he
is fated to be the founder of the Roman Empire.

John French, holder of the Heefner
Chair of Music, will conduct the program, which will feature string orchestra accompaniment. Soloists include Kim Lee (Dido),
Robert O’Neil (Aeneas) and Molly Stejskal (Belinda).
