Odwalla Chocolate Protein Drink Recalled

Odwalla Inc. has issued a recall and announced it has removed from sale Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster beverage, according to a press release.

Giant Food Stores, following the recall by Odwalla, Inc., announced in a press release it has removed Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster beverage from sale.

Consumers with peanut and tree nut allergies have reported severe allergic reactions after consumption.

Four consumers have contacted Odwalla to report allergic reactions after drinking the product, according to Odwalla.

The affected product has a use by date prior to and including 23 MAY 2012.

• Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster variety pack sold at , 10 12-oz. bottles, UPC 014054266596

According to the press release, the beverage labels carry the brand name "Odwalla" and the descriptors "Chocolate Protein Soy and Dairy Protein Shake" and "Protein Monster." Specific "enjoy by" dates are found printed on the neck of the bottles.

Customers should discard any unused portions of the beverage.

Customers can bring receipts to the location where the item was purchased for a full refund.

Symptoms of food allergies typically appear within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which her or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth, face, tounge or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.
