Charles "Pete" Cox Was Six Weeks Away from His 96th Birthday

Cox passed away on August 8.

Charles “Pete” Hugg Cox passed away Wednesday, August 8th at his home. He was with his family, extended family and beloved dogs and pussy cat.

He was born in Orange, New Jersey on September 23, 1916 and lived his life in the Philadelphia area except for time spent in England and Ireland then Africa chasing Rommel to finally liberate Rome. He left the Army with the rank of Major.

He attended Wyncroft School, Haverford School and graduated from Radnor High School. Pete attended the University of Pennsylvania upon returning from the war.

He was married to Rachel Burges Tatnall for 62 years. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Cox Bernhardt, and her husband James; son, Charles Hugg Cox III, and his wife Katherine; grandson, Andrew Joseph O'Brien; great granddaughter, Rachel Emily O'Brien; and loving caregiver/friend, Agnes K. Donnie and TBen Donnie.

Pete was very involved in his community through local politics, the Paoli Fire Company, the Great Valley Association, the Phoenixville YMCA and the American Red Cross.

He was an avid gardener who had a green thumb.

He lived his life with integrity and compassion for others. He will be greatly missed.
