Local Athlete Nicknamed 'Iron Arm' Dies at 70

His funeral is planned for Monday in Phoenixville

David V. "Geetz" Batzel, 70, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2013.

Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was the son of the late Vincent A. and Catherine C. (Stercula) Batzel.

David worked at the former Phoenix Steel Corporation.

He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Phoenixville, a member of the Polish Club and played softball and basketball in the Phoenixville community leagues. His pitching skills led him to have the name "David Iron Arm Batzel".

Dave was a man about town who enjoyed walking and talking to everyone he saw. He was a fighter and an inspiration to all.

Surviving are his sons, David C. and wife Tiffany Batzel of Douglassville, PA; Michael T. Batzel of Plymouth Meeting, PA;

4 Grandchildren, Holly, Arielle, Adam "AJ", Summer;

3 Great-Grandchildren, Payton, London and Josie;

Brother and Sisters, Thomas and wife Doll Batzel of Virginia Beach, VA, Rose Marie and husband Robert Tassoni of Phoenixville, PA, Kathleen Lahr of Spring City, PA, and Mary Theresa and husband Carl Divinney of Phoenixville, PA.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori M. wife of the late Thomas Higgins.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass in St. Ann Catholic Church, Main Street at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA, on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 am.

Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA.

Relatives and Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center, 824 Main Street, Suite 101, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
