Long-Time Phoenixville Church Organist Dies at 91
A funeral is planned for Saturday at the church where she played organ.
Elizabeth K. (Kalavik) Zurek, age 91, wife of the late John Zurek, of Timonium, MD, formerly of Phoenixville, PA died at the home of her daughter in Timonium, MD. Mrs. Zurek was a graduate of the Phoenixville High School. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Phoenixville for many years, as well as, the church's organist for a lengthy time. Mrs. Zurek loved talk radio and was a devoted sports fan.
She transferred her allegiance from the Philadelphia Eagles to the Baltimore Ravens when she moved to Maryland and was delighted when "her" team won the Super Bowl last year. She was very generous, as well as a, stylish and meticulous dresser who was frequently surprised when others commented on her youthful appearance.
Mrs. Zurek was devoted to her family all of her life. Above all else, Mrs. Zurek adored the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Zurek is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth A. "Liz" Zurek, wife of Ted A. Collins, of Timonium, MD; Krista M. Zurek, wife of Thomas A. Swiatek, of Newmarket, NH; one sister: Anne McNamara, of North Carolina; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Zurek was pre-deceased by five siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart R.C. Church, 148 Church Street, Phoenixville, PA on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. John J. Newns. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 - 9:45AM Saturday morning at the Church.
