Joseph Nash, 86

Joseph F. Nash, age 86, husband of Mary (Fiorentino) Nash, of Limerick, PA, formerly of Collegeville, PA died peacefully early Friday morning, Oct. 7, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family.  

Born in Bridgeport, PA, he was a son of the late John T. and Anna (Dever) Nash.

He was a graduate of the St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia. He attended the Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD.  

A veteran, he proudly served for the U.S. Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant in the Pacific during World War II. Mr. Nash worked as a route supervisor for many years at the Morabito Baking Company in Norristown, retiring in 1987.

He was a very active member of the St. Eleanor Roman Catholic Church in Collegeville. He served on the pastoral council, as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After his retirement, he and his wife led the Rosary at the Columbia Cottage facility in Trappe for the residents.

Mr. Nash was an avid collector of antique clocks  and was proud of his lifetime membership in Bridgeport Fire Company No. 1.

He was a devoted husband all of his life. He adored the time he could spend with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mr. Nash is survived by three children, Judith A., wife of Paul Fleming of Audubon, Deborah, wife of the late William B. Miller, Jr. of Pottstown; Joseph P. Nash, husband of Denise of West Grove, PA; one brother, James V., Nash, of Limerick, PA; six grandchildren, Moira Kelly (Fleming) and Megan Fleming, William Miller, Jaclyn, Joey and Jacob Nash; and many nieces and nephews.  

Mr. Nash was preceded in death by two brothers, John J. Nash and William E. Nash, and one sister, Mary Light-Lanigan. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at St. Eleanor's R.C. Church 647 Locust St., Collegeville, PA 19426 on Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. 

The Rev. Msgr. Patrick E. Sweeney will officiate.  

Burial will be in the St. Augustine's Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.  Friends will be received from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.  

In lieu of flowers, mass cards will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Montgomery Hospital Hospice Program, 25 West Fornance St., Norristown, PA 19401.

John Dollar, 50

John David Dollar, 50, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 6, 2011.  

John was born on a United States Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan, but was a lifelong resident of Downingtown, PA. 

John was employed for over 30 years in the auto body industry. He was an avid Eagles fan and cherished spending time with his family.  

He enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping and fishing, but what he enjoyed most was camping with his family in The Smoky Mountains. 

John is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Moore) Dollar; one daughter, Kirsten Dollar Perchalski, wife of Seth of Downingtown; two sons, Johnathon and Colten Dollar of Downingtown; his parents Duval and Anna Dollar of Kingsport, TN; two brothers, Duval and William Dollar of Coatesville; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A viewing will be held on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  

Funeral services and interment will continue in Kingsport, TN.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Johnathan Dollar Memorial Fund, c/o TD Bank, 553 W. Uwchlan Ave., Exton, PA 19341.

John Shenkle, 81

John E. Shenkle, 81, a lifetime resident of Phoenixville, died on Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at Phoenixville Hospital.

He was born in Phoenixville to the late Edmund R. and Mary (Vanderslice) Shenkle.  

John was a 1947 graduate of Phoenixville High School and a 1951 graduate of the Philadelphia Art Museum School of Art.  

He was employed for many years as a professional artist for Delaware County, PA until his retirement.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was also an active and sustaining member of the Republican Party.

He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth, wife of the late John Corbin of Phoenixville; nephew, Thomas W. Murray Jr. and wife of Worcester, MA; and niece Jane E. Murray of Lionville.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011 at First U.M.C., 865 S. Main St. Phoenixville, PA 19460.  

The Rev. Amy C. Smith will officiate. Friends will be received one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Valley Forge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the church at the above address.

Edward Naughton Jr., 88

Edward J. Naughton Jr., 88, husband of the late Evelyn M. (Carlton) Naughton of Glenmoore, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, in the Golden Living Center.  

Born in Conshohocken, he was a son of the late Edward J. Sr. and Elizabeth (Earl) Naughton. 

Mr. Naughton served in the United States Army during World War II and received an associate degree from Ursinus College. He was employed as a metallurgical supervisor for Allen Wood Steel and then as a realtor for J. Puleo and Sons Real Estate.  

He was a story and joke teller and was a Phillies fan. An avid golfer, Edward lived in Anderson, SC, where he played golf daily. His last hole-in-one occurred when he was 85 years old.

Mr. Naughton is survived by his children: Eileen M. Naughton, wife of Robert S. Russell of Phoenixville; Edward R., husband of Melissa L. Naughton, of Madison, CT; and Michael J. Naughton of Phoenixville; a siste, Margaret Seiders; grandchildren Edward J. and Julianne Naughton; and many nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his siblings Elizabeth Cassel, Jean Graham and Robert E. Naughton. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing at the Campbell-Ennis-Klotzbach Funeral Home Inc., Main Street at Fifth Avenue, Phoenixville, on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m.

Betty Jane Williams, 'Native Daughter' of Phoenixville

Betty Jane “Betsy” Williams died late Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 in the Phoenixville Hospital.  

Born in Phoenixville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Laura (Myers) Williams. A native daughter and champion of all that is Phoenixville, Betsy was known by many and was a friend to all. Passionate about Phoenixville, she forever promoted its rich history and lore. She was an avid conversationalist and vivid storyteller. Her daily walks through town brought smiles and good wishes to all she met; she always saw the best in others. 

Betsy’s constant caring and concern were evident in many good works, broadly shared and gratefully felt. She was a longtime member and deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville. Her involvements extended to the Phoenixville Historical Society, Phoenixville Women’s Club, Phoenixville Library board, Phoenixville Area Community Service (PACS) board, Forge Theatre, Chester County School Authority, Phoenixville Hospital Thrift Shop, Meals on Wheels, Senior Center and Senior Circle.  

After she graduated from Phoenixville High School, she began employment at the Valley Forge Army Hospital. Subsequently, she worked for Doctors Ciacci, Solomon, and Sugiura, was office manager at Phoenixville Hospital and served many years as benefits specialist for the Phoenixville Area School District.  

She was an enthusiastic lover of books, gardening, travel, exploring, hiking, and adventure, including rides on an ostrich and a camel. Her many friends and family will miss Betsy’s twinkling eyes and teasing good humor, and will continue to celebrate her life and her bright light.

The Memorial service will be held on Tuesday morning, Oct. 11, 2011 in the First Presbyterian Church, 145 Main St., Phoenixville, PA 19460 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. David C. McCabe will officiate.  

Burial will be held privately in the Valley Forge Baptist Church Cemetery. Contributions in Betsy’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Phoenixville, designated for the Stained Glass Window Restoration Fund at the above address.

Rosann Tagliaferri, 79

Rosann L. (Liberatori) Tagliaferri, age 79, wife of Alfred J. Tagliaferri, of Phoenixville, PA, formerly of Upper Merion Township, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 5, 2011 in her home.  

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Innocenzo "James" and Helen (Giunta) Liberatori.  

She was a graduate of the J. W. Hallahan High School in South Philadelphia.

She was a long-term member of the Mother of Divine Providence Roman Catholic Church in King of Prussia.  Mrs. Tagliaferri was always there for her family and friends.  She was always the first person to lend a hand, put a roof over your head or put a meal in front of you.  She was devoted to her husband and family all of her life.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, Mrs. Tagliaferri is survived by one son, James J., husband of Stacey (Baker) Tagliaferri, of Phoenixville; one sister, Marie S., wife of Ray Desiderio, of Phoenixville, PA; two grandsons, James M. "Jimmy" Tagliaferri, Michael J. Taglieferri; two nieces, Lisa Walsh and Cathy Palmer; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Mother of Divine Providence R.C. Church, 333 Allendale Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Martin T. Cioppi will officiate.  

Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul R.C. Cemetery, Springfield, PA.  

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Monday morning at the church.

Daniel Houck, 58

Daniel S. Houck, age 58, of West Chester, PA, died early Monday morning, Oct. 3, 2011 in Chadds Ford, PA.  

Born in Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of Anna May (Slemmer) Houck and the late C. Allen Houck. 

Mr. Houck attended the University of Maryland for Turf Grass Management.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Houck is survived by three children, Jennifer L., wife of Justin Miller of North Carolina; Jason D., husband of Colleen of Exton, PA; Jeremy D., husband of Allison of North Carolina; one brother, Richard A. "Dick" Houck, of Leola, PA; and five grandsons. 

Funeral services and burial will be held privately at the St. Peter's Pikeland United Church of Christ, Chester Springs, PA.

David Hanbury, 81

David R. Hanbury, age 81, husband of Charlene M. (MacDowell) Hanbury, of Chesterbrook, PA died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness on Monday morning, Oct. 3, 2011.  

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Albert S. and Gertrude (Herbst) Hanbury.  

He was a graduate of the Ridley High School. He received a degree in business administration from the Temple University.  

He worked as a life insurance and real estate salesman most of his life. He was a member of the St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley. 

In addition to his wife of 24 years, Mr. Hanbury is survived by two children, David R. Hanbury Jr. of Dover, NH, and Donna M. Hanbury Robinson of Cape May, NJ; one step-daughter Ellen, wife of Paul Hopeck, of Broadalbin, NY; one grandson, Damien; and two step-grandchildren, Hannah and Max. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at the St. Peter's Church in the Great Valley, 2475 St. Peter's Road, Malvern, PA 19355 on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Anne Bridgers will officiate.  

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
