Deborah Raef

Deborah Anne Raef of Douglassville, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Amityville, Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Gloria (Durham) Raef of Audubon, PA, and the late John R. Raef.

After graduating from Methacton High School, she attended Temple University.

She studied jewelry making and went on to start her own business, making exquisite handmade jewelry.

Deborah surrounded herself with animals and was known for adopting and nurturing a wide variety of wounded or abandoned strays. A strong, yet gentle spirit, her love of animals was paramount in her life.

Surviving in addition to her mother are sister Sandrah Moles and her children Troy and Laura; sister Patrice, wife of Dr. Harold Rutenber and thier daughter Emma; brother Jonathan Raef; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service in the Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 517 S. Main St. at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, P,A on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at 3:30 p.m.

A viewing will be held in the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Godot Animal Sanctuary, 391 Laughbaum Drive, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

Frances Gryzwacz, 87

Frances Elizabeth (Griffith) Grzywacz, 87, wife of the late Thomas T. Grzywacz, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 in Phoenixville Hospital.

Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late Horace K. and Mabel (Birmingham) Griffith.

Frances was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, class of 1941, and attended Norristown Business College.

After raising her sons she worked at the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, PA.

She had a lifelong interest in geneology and gardening. 

She was a chairperson for the East Pikeland Historical Commission, president emeritus of Pikeland Historical Society, a volunteer at the Kimberton Fair for the Pikeland Historical Society and a member of the Valley Forge chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Phoenixville.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas, husband of Myra, of Honey Brook, PA; and David, husband of Michele, of Phoenixville; as well as seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Ann Griffith of Phoenixville; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Rogers.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service in the Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 517 S. Main St. at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. The Rev. Cynthia L. Krommes will officiate.

Burial will follow in Brownback's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Spring City, PA.

Relatives and Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 355 St. John's Circle, Phoenixville, PA  19460.

Van Lowell Lee, 79

Van Lowell Lee, 79, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 in Parkhouse Providence Pointe, Upper Providence, PA.

Born in Tulsa, OK, he was the son of Van Horne Lee of Princeton, NJ, and the late Jennette Portia (Ming) Lee.

He was an insurance agent for INA Insurance Company and Farmers Insurance.

Surviving in addition to his father are a son, Michael Van Lee of East Fallowfield Township, PA, and a daughter, Cynthia A. Blose of Phoenixville. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Darryl Martin Lee.

Services will be private.

John Stubanas Sr., 83

John J. Stubanas Sr., 83, husband of Josephine (Brower) Stubanas, of Royersford, passed away Friday evening, Sept. 16, 2011, in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.  

Born in Phoenixville, he was a son of the late John O. and Elizabeth (McCabe) Stubanas. 

Mr. Stubanas was a graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia and attended Temple University. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed as a sales supervisor for Stroehmann Bakeries and most recently as a sales account representative for Time Warner.  

John was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who loved traveling and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. 

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Stubanas is survived by three sons: John J. Jr., husband of Linda of Spring City, and twin sons: James P., husband of Judith of Raleigh, NC, and Jeff, husband of Noel of Narberth, PA; sister: Alice Kertes; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer, a sister Margaret Elliott and a brother, Donald Stubanas. 

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his memorial mass on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Walnut Street and Lewis Road, Royersford. The Rev. Anthony J. Costa will officiate.  

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in John’s name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Valley Square, Suite 133, 512 Township Line Road, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
