Phoenixville Author Dies at 87

Ukrainian immigrant also worked at landmark local company.

John Polowyj, 87, husband of Brunhilde (Scheu) Polowyj of Phoenixville, PA, died on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Seasons Hospice in Phoenixville Hospital.

Born in Batkiw, Ukraine, he was the son of the late Basyl and Pelagia (Skoczylas) Polowyj.

John worked as a steelworker for the former Phoenix Steel Corporation.
He authored a book on his own life "To Survive & Be Free, One Ukrainian Man's Life Journey."

He was a faithful member of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Phoenixville, where he sang in the choir for many years.
John was a member of the Phoenixville Senior Center and the Ukrainian Club in Horsham. He liked to travel.


Surviving in addition to his wife are brothers, Nicholas and Wolodymyr ,a sister Zennia , and many nephews and nieces
.He is preceded in death by his brothers, Michael, Emil, Anton, Russel, and Jaroslaw.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Fairview and St. Mary's Streets, Phoenixville, PA. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30am.

Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Phoenixville, PA
.
A viewing will be held in the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
