5 Things to Know: No Scissors Stabbing in Phoenixville

Also, find out about street closures on Bridge Street and more.

After a dreary week, the weather really turned around for today’s Dogwood Parade. For those of you heading out, have fun and for those of you marching, I hope you wore comfortable shoes.

Now, onto our top five things to know today for May 21.

--“Scissors stabbing” didn’t occur. I had a couple questions from readers about this. According to Phoenixville Police, though a report of a mother stabbing her juvenile daughter with scissors was dispatched in Phoenixville this week, the incident was nothing of the sort.

When police arrived, they found a mother and daughter who had been in a physical altercation at their home. However, no weapons were involved, and the father arrived home and broke up the dispute.

Police said the daughter did have some minor scratches on her neck due to the fight, but she was not treated for the injuries.

--Parade will cause fun, traffic. While many will flock downtown for the Dogwood Parade, which begins today at 1 p.m. in Phoenixville and lasts until 3 p.m., others will be dealing with the traffic.

Here’s the route. The parade begins at Franklin and Grant, on the north side of the borough. Then it continues down Franklin, over the Gay Street Veterans Memorial Bridge and onto the 200 block of Bridge Street. The parade will then turn on South Main Street and travel through the unit, 100, 200, 300 and 400 blocks, where it ends at Reeves Park.

If you don’t want to sit in traffic, consider using Starr Street and Nutt Road.

--Festival carries on. After the parade, the festival continues at Reeves Park. If you haven’t made it out to catch the rides, eat the carnival food or check out the scene, you can still do so until 10 p.m. tonight.

Community groups will also be on hand today handing out information and chatting with residents.

--Bridge Street closed on Sunday, May 22. After the excitement of the Dogwood Festival ends, another festival picks it right up.

Sunday, the Restaurant Festival will be held downtown in the 100 and 200 block of Bridge Street. The street will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Plenty of vendors will be on hand, and there will be entertainment.

--Movie fun at the Colonial. Last night I went to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 showing of “Final Justice” at The Colonial Theatre (for fun, not for work).

The show was great (and the movie, as usual, was truly awful). Fans of MST3K can check out the next MST3K showing on July 15 at 9:45 p.m. It’s a Joel episode.
