UPDATED: One Dead After Car Plunges Into Schuylkill Canal

The accident occurred Sunday morning in Port Providence.

Police aren’t yet releasing the name of a man who died early Sunday morning after his car drifted off the road, struck a utility pole and went into the Schuylkill Canal.

Police were called for a one-car accident at 4:45 a.m. in the 900 block of Port Providence Road. The car did not have any passengers. Upper Providence Police responded and were assisted by Mont Clare Fire Company, Oaks Fire Company and the county coroner’s office.

“The driver was found inside the overturned vehicle and died as a result of his injuries,” according to a news release from Upper Providence Police.

The man’s name is being withheld until police notify his family.
