UPDATE: Suspects Still at Large; Shooting Victim's Age, Name Updated

A 22-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his chest in the 100 block of Prospect Street.

Police corrected the age and name of the victim in Wednesday's homicide.

The victim has been identified as Selvin Mamerto Lopez-Mauricio, 22, of the 100 block of Prospect Street. 

Lopez-Mauricio was shot in the chest at close-range shortly before 12:40 a.m., according to police. The motive appears to be robbery.

Phoenixville Police are working with Chester County Detectives. The Chester County District Attorney's Office has called in several county detectives. 

An autopsy is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight. 

The three suspects described below are still on the loose.

Three suspects, two men and a woman, are being sought in an early morning homicide in downtown Phoenixville. 

Selbyn Lopez, 26, was taken to Phoenixville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

According to Phoenixville Police, they were called to the 100 block of Prospect Street for a report of a shooting at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday. 

"When the officers arrived, they discovered a Hispanic male with a gunshot wound to his chest lying in the street," a press release states.

Three suspects, who police say assaulted the victim and then shot him at close range, are still loose. They are described as:

  • a black male, mid-20s, 5'2 to 5'6, thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants
  • a white male, mid-20s, 5'2 to 5'6, possibly wearing a gray sweatshirt
  • a white female, mid-20s, 5'6, thin build, possibly wearing a gray sweatshirt

A preliminary investigation indicates the motive was robbery, according to police.

Police were assisted on scene by East Pikeland Police and Schuylkill Township Police, as well as the Chester County Detectives Forensic Unit.
