Updated: UProv Man Shoots Himself in the Head During Drug Raid

James Mastroianni, 48, was in surgery Friday morning.

reports that James Mastroianni, 48, shot himself in the head in the Orchard Court development in Upper Providence after authorities entered the residence on a drug bust.

The subject holed up in the basement after the Montgomery County SWAT Team arrived at the home at 9:45 p.m. When shots rang out, the team thought it might have a standoff, but it was later determined that the shots were self-inflicted by the Mastroianni.

Limerick Patch reports that Upper Providence Police Chief Don Sherid explained that there were drugs in the home.

“He said the drugs were ‘mostly marijuana’ and that the subject was suspected of selling them, but declined to provide further details,” Limerick Patch reports.

Mastroianni has two sons who were also arrested but not charged as of Thursday night.
