Downed Utility Pole Snarls Bridge Street Traffic

A delivery truck hit the line while attempting to turn around on the unit block of Bridge.

Traffic was interrupted but the power outage was minimal after a semi-trailer struck a power line on Bridge Street on Monday evening, tearing the line down and snapping the wooden utility pole that supported it.

According to the driver of the offending Price-Tran delivery truck, at approximately 5:30 p.m., he was heading east on Bridge Street and attempting to leave the downtown when he had doubts about his ability to drive under the overpass on the east end of Bridge.

The driver then attempted to turn around in the Happy Wash Day Laundry driveway on the unit block of Bridge Street, but in doing so rammed into the above power lines. The force of the impact snapped and splintered the nearby utility pole.

While only Happy Wash lost power, according to PECO crews on the scene, Bridge Street was closed for nearly 90 minutes, interrupting traffic.

At approximately 6:55 p.m., the truck was freed from the wires, and at 7:15 p.m., Bridge Street was reopened.
