Driver Flown After Car vs. Pole Accident in Oaks

Police confirmed a one-car accident at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday.

A male victim was reportedly flown from the scene of a crash during the overnight hours Sunday.

The one-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Brower Avenue and Egypt Road in Oaks. Upper Providence Township Police said the report was not complete and would not release much information.

A witness on the scene, Adam Williams, said a two-door Mazda was in the eastbound lane of Egypt Road, heading toward Oaks, when the car lost control and hit a utility pole.

The sole occupant, a male, was removed from the car by fire department personnel on scene.

"They tried the jaws of life and it didn't work," Williams said, explaining that a Sawzall was then used to cut back the top of the car.

After the top of the car was peeled back, the conscious male driver was removed and placed on a backboard, according to Williams. The driver was then flown to Hahnemann Hospital, according to the witness.

Williams said the extraction was difficult due to the position of the utility pole.

"It was kind of teeter-tottering on the top of the car," Williams said.

Mont Clare, Oaks and Collegeville Fire Companies responded to the early morning accident.

The utility pole has since been replaced. Egypt Road was closed for approximately an hour, Williams said.
