East Pikeland Crash Claims Life of 24-Year-Old

Police say the crash occurred Tuesday afternoon.

East Pikeland Police are still investigating what caused a fatal accident Tuesday afternoon that killed a 24-year-old man.

According to Officer Patrick Ehmann, the crash involved a silver pickup truck and a large construction cement truck. Both had one occupant, and the pickup truck was traveling north on Pike Springs Road (Route 113) between Old Kimberton Road and Clover Mill Road when a crash occurred with the southbound cement truck. Ehmann said it wasn't an head-on crash.

"It was an angled collision," where it appeared that one vehicle veered into the oncoming traffic lane.

The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m., and Ehmann said Route 113 was closed for approximately six hours as the crash was cleaned up.

When emergency personnel arrived, Ehmann said the driver was heavily entrapped. There were efforts to resusitate the 24-year-old victim but he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the cement truck suffered minor injuries. He was taken to where he was treated and released, Ehmann said.

The investigation into the crash could take up to a week, Ehmann said, and though the family has been informed of the man's death, the name is not being released by East Pikeland Police.

"Until we're done with the investigation, we're not going to release any names," Ehmann said. "Even then, it's really up to the family."

East Pikeland Police were assisted on scene by West Pikeland Police. West End Ambulance, Kimberton Fire Company and the Chester County Coroner's Office also responded to the scene.

Editor's Note: This article originally stated the victim's age as 25, as given by police. As Patch received more information the man's age was corrected to 24.
