East Pikeland Police Consider 'Police Academy' for Residents

The department is mulling the launch of two new resident-friendly programs in 2013.

The East Pikeland Police Department is considering launching a pair of new programs in 2013, the department announced on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

The first program would be an Internet safety seminary aimed at parents. The second is a one-day police academy that would give residents a better sense of the daily life of an East Pikeland Police officer.

Both programs are in the preliminary stages of development.

Below is the department’s post.

The East Pikeland Police department is planning for the year 2013. We would like to be responsive to the citizens in the community and present programs that would be of interests to you. We have learned that it is not what we think is important, but what you think is important. We are in the early planning stages of two programs that we would like your input. The first is an internet safety program for parents. We presented this program to the parents of St Basil's school and it was well received. This would most likely be presented on a week night.

The other is a one day police academy most likely on a Saturday. We would present what is required of a police officer and give a brief hands on demonstration of what police officers do on a day to day bases. Tour of the station, equipment we carry, speed enforcement, search and seizure etc.

Both of these would be by pre-registration only so we could accommodate everyone. At this point in time we just want to know if there is any interest in these programs. If so more information will follow. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Would you participate in either of these programs? Tell us in the comments.
