East Pikeland Police Nab Alleged Hit and Run Driver

Justin Payne, 20, was arrested overnight.

An alleged hit-and-run driver wanted in Tredyffrin Township didn’t get far early Wednesday morning.

Within half an hour of the radio message describing the vehicle, Officer Ken Smith found the silver Jeep traveling west on Route 23. The Jeep was wanted in connection with a hit and run in Tredyffrin Township.

The vehicle, which police say was driven by Justin Payne, 20, of St. Davids, had front-end damage and Payne was driving without lights.

When Smith pulled the vehicle over, he found Payne to be under the influence of alcohol. Payne was charged with DUI, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident and other motor vehicle violations.

Payne was held overnight in Pottstown until he was arraigned by District Judge Theodore Michaels Wednesday morning.

In other East Pikeland Police news, on Tuesday, R.A. Ohler Services at 400 Schuylkill Road, reported the theft of $100 of scrap metal. Police are investigating.
