'High' Noon? Reading Man Hit with Drug Charges During Lunch Break

Thomas Gochal said he was "just eating lunch," according to police.

A Reading man faces drug charges after East Pikeland Police say he was busted smoking pot on his lunch break in a parked car on Hares Hill Road.

Thomas Gochal, 47, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct stemming from the November 21 incident.

According to court documents, at 12:53 p.m. an East Pikeland police officer saw a car parked suspiciously, facing away from traffic, in an open lot just across from the Iron Bridge.

The officer pulled into the lot and made contact with the driver, Gochal, who explained that he was “just eating lunch.” The officer smelled marijuana and searched Gochal, who denied possessing any illegal drugs.

The officer found a white pipe in the man’s pant leg, which Gochal reluctantly admitted to having smoked marijuana from. He then told the officer he had marijuana in his possession, which he had tucked into his waistband.

Thomas Gochal faces preliminary hearing on January 10.

Along those same lines, I was walking through downtown Phoenixville yesterday around 2 pm and saw two obvious drug deals right on the corner of Bridge and Main Street. Granted I'm no detective but when two people reach their hands into each others jacket pockets and then walk away from each other it sort of jumps out.

Yeah, somethings never change no matter how much your dress it up. You can call the MainStay and Spectators what ever you want, but it's still a crack house. You can put in nice bars but their are still people doing bumps in the bathrooms. Don't get me wrong, Phoenixville is way better than it was in the 80s-90s but it is still far from great. Maybe if the cops actually walked a beat downtown and on the north side instead of setting up speed traps on Starr St and the outside downtown we could make some progress.

Now here we have East Pikeland Police. They let guys operate businesses with phoney drivers documents and no insurance. People stopped for no licenses. But they go after a guy who is doing something that is being legalized in every state as soon as it hits the ballot.

In Phoenixville the police do not monitor parking meters.
