Man Assaulted Wife Over Money, Police Say

A 53-year-old Phoenixville man was arrested on Sunday after police say he assaulted his wife in their Maryhill Road home.

According to court documents, on Sunday at 10:11 a.m., state police were dispatched to the 100 block of Maryhill Road for a reported domestic assault. Once on the scene, the victim told officers that she and her husband got into a an argument about their financial problems that quickly escalated.

The woman said her husband threw her on the ground, then grabbed her by the arms and flung her on to their bed. She said her husband then sat on her stomach, and slapped her in the face and side of the head.

“I am much stronger than this. We can do this all day. Admit you are a thief and misspend my money,” the man reportedly shouted as police say he strangled the woman and pulled on her ear, nose, and mouth.

Police said the victim had injuries consistent with the assault she described.

The defendant was charged with simple assault and harassment. He faces preliminary hearing on March 14.
