Man Faces Charges of Indecent Exposure, Lewdness After Incident at Giant

A man exposed himself at a supermarket in Phoenixville.

As shoppers watched in disbelief, a man was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself in front of patrons, including a child, at the Giant food store on Nutt Road.

Bernard David Slott, 51, of Phoenixville, was arrested Aug. 28 at approximately 9 p.m. after police allege he dropped his shorts and masturbated in front of the Giant, located at 700 Nutt Road. Slott is charged with open lewdness, indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.

A driver flagged down Phoenixville Police Officer Nick Heller in the parking lot of Kmart, which is in the same shopping center at 8:57 p.m. The driver told the officer he witnessed a man in a red shirt with his pants around his ankles at the supermarket. Upon arrival at the Giant, Heller saw the Slott standing at the west exit of the store, court documents state.

According to the criminal complaint filed in district court, when the officer approached the man still had his shorts around his ankles and he was holding his genitals in his left hand.

“The individual was immediately taken into custody as patrons of the supermarket watched in disbelief,” Heller wrote in the criminal complaint. “Among the patrons leaving the store were both men and women and one of the women was with her daughter who was approximately 8 years old.”

The man was identified as Slott, and he was arraigned Aug. 28. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. in front of District Judge Theodore Michaels. Slott is free on $7,500 unsecured bail.
