Phoenixville Federal Bank Robbed, Again

Police believe it was the same man who robbed the Main Street bank on Feb. 20.

For the second time in eight weeks, Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust on Main Street was robbed, Phoenixville Police are confirming. The department believes the same man was responsible for both robberies.

According to Sgt. Joseph Nemic, who is investigating the case, sometime before 11:55 a.m., a white male in his early 20s entered the bank, threatened employees with a black revolver, and demanded money from a teller.

The robber, who police say is approximately 5'10" to 6'0" with dark hair, concealed his face with the collar of his jacket, but was captured by the bank's security camera. (Those images are attached to this article.)

After leaving the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, the man ran south on Main Street. No injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the same man robbed the Main Street branch of Phoenixville Federal branch on Feb. 20.

The bank has posted a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the crimes. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Phoenixville Police Department Detective Division at 610-933-1180.

Chuck There should be a law that you cannot walk into a public place with head and face covered.Just like if you sell drugs with in so many feet of a school stiffer sentence. That way you walk into thees places call police now.And you get caught having a gun in a school you should do time.

The pictures aren't very good. With the technology available today you would think the bank would have better equipment. At least have a video and not just pics. The point of view isn't even very good. Can't the bank at least line up the cam to get a good pic?
jk April 18, 2013 at 04:42 PM
Haha, the cops are busy harassing people walking around minding their own business. Any actual crime taking place is terrifying to them.
Area Patch Reader April 18, 2013 at 05:01 PM
Got to agree with jk. If you are going 34 mph on Starr Street, the will pull you over in a minute. Rob a bank in broad day light...nothing. Typical Phoenixville policing. Same with the drug issues. We all know where the drugs are and are being sold but so you see any cops "walking a beat" in these areas? Hell no. More money to be made and safer to harass citizens drving to and from work.

Not starting trouble here APR but as much as I think the speed limit on Starr should be raised slightly (at least 30 mph) there is good reason to police the speed zone on that road. Although it is a major thoroughfare it is primarily a residential area first and foremost. Starr Rd also sits right on the edge of Reeve's Park which is pretty active with adults and children and not to mention the Library is 1 block away. But the main reason to police the speed on this road is with 2 elementary schools close by and the high school close by this road is crossed by many young students going to and from school. I do agree they really need to put the hammer down on the drug dealers in town but I just think the Starr Road argument is separate and equally important to the safety of the citizens with regard to traffic and speeding. I kept the argument civil so don't go loco on me.

?, Phoenixville has one of the larger police forces in the region. While I agree that traffic safety has it's place, everyone knows damn well that the speed traps (and the unrealistic 25 mph speed limit) on Starr street exist for one purpose, to create revenue. Period. Even with that said, they could still have more cops walking a beat in they known drug areas but choose not to. They spend about 80% of their time and man hours on writing tickets and hanging out in front of Steel City on their bikes sipping coffee. They are too scared to walk a beat on the north side and high crime areas, which is why most of them took jobs out here in the 'burbs instead of Philly where the criminals shoot back. I would say about 20% of the current force is in it for the right reasons, the rest just like the benefits and "power" they get being cops without having to deal with the real hard core criminal element. The mayor is suppose to be watching the force but while he is a nice guy and great tennis coach, he is nothing more than a rubber stamp who recently signed off on them getting 1000s of dollars in new equipment (including office furniture) while our taxes have increased and we have regained our status as the prime suburban drug center. $50 bucks says this bank robbery spree wil NOT be sloved nor an arrest made by a suspect in it by any Phoenixville cop...
harry finster April 18, 2013 at 06:39 PM
Well APR, I just don't agree on some of your points regarding the police. I think, just like most professions, 80% are in it for the right reason and do a fine job and there's always a small percentage that don't work as hard or take advantage of their job. And although P'ville isn't Philly it also isn't fantasy land either. If your argument were true we could expand on it and say Philly cops took their job in Philly because the "real cops" are in NYC, Chicago and LA where all the action really occurs. It's just not a well founded argument but that's just my take on it. Look, I have just as much disdain over the drug dealers and activity as you seem to have so we're on the same page there. I also think we need a new, more aggressive mayor and not someone so passive and out of touch.

Joe Smith April 21, 2013 at 11:10 AM
If you are running south in P ville you are going to Walnut St to buy drugs.
Mary April 21, 2013 at 03:35 PM
The tellers have asked the manager to put up signs asking customers to remove hats, hoods and sunglasses but he refuses to get off his huge rear end to do anything about it. As for the cameras...its as good as it gets. Heck they just had them installed like 2 years ago! And yep those are decorations blocking the camera. The blonde at the desk in the lobby has nothing better to do with her time.
Ike April 21, 2013 at 05:59 PM
Did they put die packs in the money???? And if they didnt or dont ,,WHY NOT??? I would think that if they were in with the money , they could had got the bum...Him running about the streets of PVILE,,even our police might had caught him with all THE COLOR DIE ON HIM.... And yes iam being foreal... please can someone tell us if they put the packs in the the green???
Mary April 21, 2013 at 06:05 PM
No they don't use those anymore.
Chuck B April 21, 2013 at 08:31 PM
Mary you seem to know an awful lot about this office, I wonder how? Anyway, the manager you insult happens to be someone I know and no one cares about his people more than he does. As for the signs you refer to, do you really think a person intent on robbing the bank gives a HOOT what a sign says? Maybe you should tell the manager to hang a "No Robbers" sign on the door, that should do it. You are a genius!
ladybug April 22, 2013 at 07:03 PM
First I would love to thank everyone that had some common sence and stayed to the subject as to the robbery at The Phoenixville Federal Bank and Trust. Mary I feel sorry for you...Those statements you made did nothing but make you look stupid. And those comments you said were false no one asked the Wonderful, kind hearted Chuck to hang signs in the branch and he would do anything in the world for his fellow coworkers . And haa haa to you that was not a decoration it was the bag he shoved in the tellers face to put money in it. So the next time you want to post false accusations come to the branch and say it to everyones face. And no better yet when he comes in maybe you will be there and he can wave the gun in your face.....and then we will see what you have to say then. And thankyou not the mayor I am very proud to know chuck and the blonde at the desk that the famous Mary stated has nothing to do is a wonderful person who does what ever she can in her power to help customers....everyone stay safe and have a great day...

C'mon y'all. Starr Street is a STATE highway (Route 29). It is controlled by the State. Complain to them. Yeah, I know, it used to BE 35MPH (State Residential Speed), and the Borough convinced them to make it 25MPH. Contact your Senators and Reps in Harrisburg and tell THEM that the citizens of Phoenixville want it back at 35MPH. You'll get nowhere complaining to the Borough.
Kathryn April 24, 2013 at 05:05 PM
In response to Ed Jones; Starr Street has never been 35 mph. I have lived on Starr Street all my life and I has always been 25 mph. It is 25 mph because is goes through a residential area. People just need to deal with it and move on.

How many years is "all your life"? I'm sure Starr Street has existed longer than you...
Ed Jones April 26, 2013 at 05:59 PM
Guess you're not very old. Or perhaps your long term memory is shot.
harry finster April 26, 2013 at 07:23 PM
... but Ed, Kathryn's been here ALLLLL her life. LOL! Maybe her real name is Sally Starr.
