Phoenixville Police Blotter: Man Says Attackers Were Impatient at Drive-Thru

The following arrest information was supplied by the Phoenixville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported between Oct. 27 and Nov. 5. This is a sampling and not a complete list of incidents during that time period.

Man Says Attackers Targeted Him Because Drive-Thru Line Took Too Long

An officer responded to a report of a fight at the at 651 Nutt Road on Nov. 5 at 2:55 a.m.

Upon arrival, two subjects in a white Honda Prelude fled the scene. The officer caught up and stopped the vehicle at the dead end of Paradise Street. According to the police report, the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and turned his lights off as he approached the dead end.

The driver was identified as Jose DeLeon, and according to the police report, he stated that he was attacked at the McDonald’s drive-thru because the line was taking too long.

He said the attackers fled in a GMC pick-up truck, and he said he didn’t want to press charges, according to police. 

DeLeon was cited for not having a driver’s license and for careless driving.

Hundreds of Dollars in Change Stolen in North Street Burglary

A thief got away with between $400 and $500 in change after breaking into a home in the 100 block of North Street.

Between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Nov. 4, someone entered the home through a rear window and took the change, leaving four empty containers behind.

Man Allegedly Tries to Sell Stolen Saw Near Enterprise on Gay Street

A caller told police that a man was trying to sell him a tool that he had hidden under his coat on Nov. 4 at approximately 12:22 p.m.

An officer spoke to Todd Galambos, 47, who had a Milwaukee Sawzall under his coat near Enterprise Rent-a-Car at 211 Gay St. He allegedly told an officer he was 36 years old and gave a false date of birth. Police discovered that Galambos was wanted out of New Jersey for fraud.

He said he purchased the Sawzall at Sears Hardware, but when officers called they found that the store did not stock that model. Galambos allegedly later admitted that the tool had fallen off of a truck at Nutt Road and West Phoenix Drive. The value was approximately $130.

He was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and giving false identification to law enforcement. Bail was set at $3,500, unsecured. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1 in district court.

Man Reports Being Robbed at Penn Street at North Street

A 19-year-old man told police that he was on his way home to Canal Street from the Giant grocery store on Nutt Road when a group of four to five men between the ages of 17 and 20 allegedly robbed him of $200 cash.

One of the men reportedly had a baseball bat, and the victim said he didn’t recognize any of the men.

Octopi, Drugs Stolen from High Street Apartment

A woman reported that someone stole one Trazodone pill and two stuffed animals in the shape of octopi during the week prior to Nov. 4 from her apartment in the 300 block of High Street.

Upon investigation, police determined that there was no forced entry and that the woman may have misplaced the stuffed animals and taken the pill.

Juvenile Struck by Car at Third Avenue and Gay Street

According to a police report, a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman allegedly struck a 17-year-old juvenile female who was crossing the street in the crosswalk at Third Avenue and Gay Street on Nov. 2 shortly before 7:16 a.m.

The vehicle had no visible damage, according to police. The victim was taken to Paoli Hospital.

Alleged DUI at Bridge Street Fire Scene

While crews battled a four-alarm fire in the 300 block of Bridge Street on Oct. 30 at approximately 11:49 p.m., a man allegedly drove through barricades and was arrested for driving under the influence.

According to police, Jorge Mendez Chavez, 34, drove through the barricades put up for the before parking in the lot at 368 Bridge Street.

He was charged with DUI, reckless endangerment, obstructing emergency services, driving without a license and other summary violations. He was arraigned and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 1 in district court.

Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing with an Infant in Tow

A 23-year-old woman pleaded guilty to a retail theft charge following an incident on Oct. 30 shortly before 2:48 p.m. at , 165 Nutt Road.

According to a police report, a Gateway employee told police that Zuleyma Castellnos, of Phoenixville, placed items worth a total $21.17 in her bag with the intention of concealing them. She had an infant with her and had to go pick up another child at school, so police made arrangements to process her the following day.

She was charged with retail theft and ordered to pay restitution and court costs.

Theft Reported at Phoenixville High School

A man called police to report that a 17-year-old student allegedly stole $30 from a wallet that was left in the lunchroom at Phoenixville High School, 1200 Gay St.

The incident was reported on Oct. 28 at 1:05 p.m. Restitution was reportedly made and the student was given a three-day suspension. No charges were filed and the juvenile’s probation officer was contacted.

Crash, DUI Arrest on Anderson Avenue

According to police, Daniel Nailon, 27, was allegedly drunk behind the wheel when his 2011 Jeep Liberty collided with a parked 2001 Dodge Ram in the 400 block of Anderson Avenue on Nov. 3 shortly before 11:50 p.m.

Police said Nailon was suspected of being under the influence but according to the report, he refused to give a blood sample. He was charged with DUI and careless driving and a preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 15 in district court.

Diet Pills Allegedly Stolen at Giant

A manager at the Giant grocery store at 700 Nutt Road called police on Oct. 27 at 5:08 p.m. to say she detained a 61-year-old woman for retail theft.

The woman allegedly stole diet pills worth $6.99. The manager decided to pursue civil, rather than criminal charges, according to the police report. The woman will be no longer allowed on the grocery store’s property.

Drug Charges on Center Street

A man was charged with possession of marijuana after police allegedly found him in a vehicle along with at 37-year-old man and a 20-year-old man in the 600 block of Center Street.

Zachary Kirby, 20, allegedly had a small amount of marijuana on him. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 8 in district court.

Man Cited for Revving Engine on High Bridge

Police cited Joseph Newman-Syrylo, 20, for disorderly conduct after he allegedly intentionally revved the engine of a 1972 Chevy.

According to police, the tires screeched and the vehicle was lacking any type of muffler system. The incident occurred on the Gay Street Veterans Memorial Bridge, where police say a several people were standing at the time to see a fireworks display.

Police stopped the vehicle at Franklin Avenue and Rhoades Street. The incident occurred on Nov. 4 at 10:15 p.m.

Alleged DUI at Starr and Church Streets

A corporal allegedly observed a GMC Yukon traveling the wrong way on Church Street on Nov. 5 at 1:43 a.m.

Police charged Emily Jane Japngie, 46, for driving under the influence and related charges. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 8 in district court.

Car Keyed on Church Street

Someone keyed a 2008 Subaru Legacy parked in the 300 block of Church Street.

The damage was discovered shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 4. The car was keyed along the length of the passenger side and on part of the rear quarter panel on the passenger side.

Car Damaged on Church Street

A woman discovered a dent in her 2004 Volvo V70, which had been parked in the 200 block of Church Street.

The damage was discovered at 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 4.

Snowballs, Rocks Hurled at Marshall Street Residence

A group of juveniles reportedly threw snowballs and rocks at a residence in the 200 block of Marshall Street, shattering two windows, sometime before 7:37 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the juveniles, who had already fled the scene when police arrived.

Pumpkin Tossed at Window on Marshall Street

A woman called police to report that someone had thrown a pumpkin at her window and broke the outer pane.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:27 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the 100 block of Marshall Street. Police searched the area but were unable to immediately locate the perpetrators.

Pumpkin Tossed Through Window on Breckenridge Street

A woman reported that someone threw a pumpkin through her front window sometime before 10:31 p.m. on Oct. 31.

When an officer arrived, he found a smashed window and pieces of pumpkin on the porch and inside the home. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Breckenridge Street.

Mirrors Damaged on Marshall Street

A woman told police that someone broke of the side-view mirror on the driver’s side of a 2002 Toyota Camry sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.

The passenger-side mirror was also damaged. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Marshall Street.

Bike Stolen on First Avenue

A woman reported that her son’s bike was stolen sometime before 5 p.m. on Nov. 4.

The bike is a Trek mountain bike with a green frame and black handlebars, crank and pedals. There is also a storage rack on the back.

The theft was reported in the 100 block of First Avenue.

Door Smashed on Morgan Street

A man reported that sometime overnight on Nov. 5 someone used a rock to smash the driver’s side door of a 2001 Ford Escape parked in the 300 block of Morgan Street.

Cars Egged on Emmett Street

A woman reported that two cars she owns were egged during the overnight hours on Nov. 5 in the 300 block of Emmett Street.

House Egged on Bateman Drive

A woman reported that her front door was hit with an egg sometime during the overnight hours on Oct. 31 in the 1100 block of Bateman Drive.

The incident was reported on Oct. 31 at 10:17 a.m.

House Egged on Anderson Avenue

A woman reported that someone struck her front door with an egg in the first block of East Anderson Avenue sometime before 8:14 p.m. on Oct. 31.

The woman couldn’t provide a description but thought the egg may have been thrown by someone in a vehicle. Police checked the area but were unable to locate the perpetrators.

Property Damage on Emmett Street

A passing truck may have downed a Verizon cable wire, damaging gutters and a fence in the 300 block of Emmett Street.

According to police, who responded on Nov. 1 at 2:23 p.m., the truck may have snagged the wire, which then caused the damage to the gutter and fence before the wire finally gave way. No witnesses reported seeing the truck.

Tires Slashed on Maple Avenue

A man reported that four tires on a 2002 Chrysler Sebring were slashed between 10 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 10:54 a.m. on Oct. 31.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of Maple Avenue.

Games, Videos Stolen from Balley Drive

A man called to report that several videos and game discs were discovered missing shortly before 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 31.

The games and discs had been in a home in the 1100 block of Balley Drive and the man believed they were stolen earlier in the month.

Police were investigating.

Retail Theft at Goodwill on Nutt Road

A woman reported that a female stole a shopping cart full of items from the Goodwill store at 700 Nutt Road sometime prior to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28.

An investigation was pending.

Public Drunkenness on Third Avenue

A man reportedly tried running from police and instead ran into a mailbox with his head while attempting to enter a residence in the 200 block of Third Avenue.

Police reported that Daniel Proud, 22, of Spring City, was highly intoxicated on Oct. 29 at 1:55 a.m. He tried unsuccessfully to flee police, according to the report, and was caught and cited for public drunkenness.

Fight Reported at North and Penn Streets

Police responded to a report of a fight at North and Penn streets on Oct. 30 at 7:57 p.m.

The caller reported that the group was already dispersing, and when police got there those fighting had already fled.
