Phoenixville Police Blotter: Man Shot Gun in Woods

The following arrest information was supplied by the Phoenixville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported between Aug. 16 and Aug. 31.

Man Shot Gun in Woods Off Mowere Road

Police responded to reports of gunfire near Mowere Road and Northridge Drive on Aug. 31 at 4:03 p.m.

Once at the scene, police reported hearing additional shots. A man emerged from the woods on Mowere Road. He was identified as Leali Perkins, 22, and according to police he admitted to firing the gun in the woods.

Perkins had a permit to carry and had a .40-caliber black Taurus gun.

Police cited Perkins for disorderly conduct for the noise and for a firearm ordinance violation. Perkins pleaded guilty to both in district court.

Steel Valued at $3K Stolen

On Aug. 24 at 8:14 a.m., a man reported that during the overnight hours, someone stole four pieces of raw steel from Steel Plate Products at 80 Cromby Road.

Each piece weighs approximately 300 pounds, and the total value was estimated at $3,000.

Police checked local scrap yards but were unable to locate the pieces.

Man Reports Harassment After Near Accident

A man reported that shortly before 5 p.m. on Aug. 18, a Hispanic male in his 20s driving a red Pontiac Grand Am sedan confronted him.

The man reported that he and the man were arguing over a near car accident, and the man told police the driver of the Grand Am said “You’re lucky that I didn’t shoot you.”

The man who reported the incident was told to call police if he saw the subject again. The incident occurred at Sal’s Pizza Box at 95 Nutt Road.

Burglary on Second Avenue

On Aug. 20 at 2:15 a.m., a woman told police she’d been sleeping when her barking dog awoke her.

She discovered the back door open and a screen window open on the porch. Later that night, she found another window open, as well.

A witness reported seeing three males leaving in a dark colored vehicle.

Police were investigating.

Man Serves Himself a Beer on Bridge Street

David Bobyock, 49, of Chester Springs, went behind the closed second-floor bar at Molly Maguire’s, 197 Bridge St., and helped himself to a beer, according to police.

The incident occurred on Aug. 18 shortly before 10:54 p.m. Bobyock was confronted and said he would pay for the beer, but the man who reported the incident had already called police. The beer bottle was never opened.

Bobyock left the beer and fled the bar. A disc jockey chased the man and detained him in the 200 block of Bridge Street.

He was charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.

Drug Possession at Bank and Price Streets

Wade Rudzik, 18, of Pottstown, was arrested on Aug. 31 at approximately 7:05 p.m. after police say he was in possession of marijuana.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 27. The incident occurred at Bank and Price streets.

Assault at High and Franklin

A 40-year-old man was struck in the head with a piece of metal during a fight shortly before 10:53 p.m. on Aug. 25.

No one on scene saw anything, according to the police report. The incident occurred at High Street and Franklin Avenue.

Domestic Assault on Gay Street

Daniel Simaj, 36, was charged with simple assault and harassment following an alleged incident on Aug. 26 shortly before 10:23 a.m.

Police responded for a report of a verbal domestic dispute in the 100 block of Gay Street. Upon arrival they found a female victim bleeding from the nose. According to police, further investigation revealed that Simaj allegedly pushed the victim and punched her in the face.

He was charged and arraigned with unsecured bail set at $7,500. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2012.  

Thief Steals Gas from Giant Station on Nutt Road

An employee of the gas station located at the Giant at 700 Nutt Road reported to police that a white female in a black Mazda MX-5 pumped $42.53 worth of gas and left without paying on Aug. 22 at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Disorderly Conduct Citation for Man at Gay and Church Streets

On Aug. 19 at 12:53 a.m., a silver Acura passed an officer, who noticed that the car radio was loud and the driver was yelling loudly, according to police.

The officer stopped the vehicle near Gay and Church streets and the driver, Trevor Dubree, 19, started hitting his vehicle and became very verbal and uncooperative, according to police.

He was cited for disorderly conduct.

iPod, Canon Printer Stolen from Vehicle on Vanderslice Street

A woman reported that a thief broke into her vehicle, which was possibly left unlocked, and stole an iPod and a Canon printer/fax/scanner during the overnight hours of Aug. 19.

The theft occurred in the 400 block of Vanderslice Street.

Phone, Computer, Cash Stolen from Vehicle on Main Street

On Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m., a man reported that between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Aug. 29, someone broke into a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara parked in the unit block of South Main Street and stole a red Samsung cell phone, a Gateway computer and two envelopes containing cash.

Stereo System Stolen on Nutt Road

A man reported that the driver’s side rear window of his 1998 Ford Expedition had been smashed and a thief took his stereo system during Aug. 28, the night that Hurricane Irene struck the area.

The thief made off with a JVC head unit, a 2,500-watt amplifier and three large speakers. In total the stereo system was valued at $2,000.

The incident occurred in a parking lot in the 400 block of Nutt Road.

Car Radio Stolen on Main Street

An unknown thief made off with an after-market car stereo between 8 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 12 p.m. on Aug. 20.

The radio was in a car parked in the 100 block of Main Street.

Car Kicked on Franklin Avenue

A woman reported that a man kicked her 2005 Honda Civic, causing damage, in the 400 block of Franklin Avenue.

The incident was reported on Aug. 20 at 4:10 p.m.

Hit and Run Crash in the Parking Lot at Prospect and Main

A woman reported that she just returned from the parking lot at Prospect and Main streets when she discovered that someone had sideswiped her 2004 Honda Civic while it was parked in the lot.

Police noted a large scrape down the passenger side of the Civic with what appeared to be a brown paint transfer. No vehicles were seen in the area with damage that may have occurred during the crash.

The incident was reported on Aug. 26 at 9:24 a.m.

Vehicle Struck on Washington Avenue

During the overnight hours on Aug. 27 someone hit a vehicle parked in the Presbyterian church lot in the 100 block of Washington Avenue.

The driver of the striking vehicle did not leave any information. Police tracked down Delfino Romero, 36, who, according to the police report, admitted causing the damage.

The victim’s vehicle was towed from the scene, and the police report stated that charges were pending.

Car Struck on Bridge Street

A woman parked her 2007 Toyota Corolla behind the Mainstay Inn in the 100 block of Bridge Street at approximately midnight on Aug. 27 and when she came out the next day she noticed damage to the passenger side front and door.

The driver of the striking vehicle did not leave any information at the scene.

Hit and Run Crash on South Street

Between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 24, an unknown vehicle crashed into a 2008 Buick Lacrosse, causing damage to the Buick’s headlight.

The Buick was parked and occupied in the 200 block of South Street at the time of the crash. The striking vehicle fled the scene. 

Hit and Run Crash on Second Avenue

A woman told police she heard a crash on the night of Aug. 21 at approximately 10:30 p.m.

In the morning, when she went to her car parked in front of Barkley Elementary she saw that the driver’s side mirror and door had been struck by a hit-and-run driver.

The incident was reported at 11:01 a.m. on Aug. 22.

Hit and Run at Gay and Hall Streets

A woman reported that a driver backed into her car near the intersection of Gay and Hall streets shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.

The driver of the striking vehicle left without giving information. The woman is described as a heavy-set white female in her 30s with brown hair driving a blue Toyota.

Windshield Shot on Deger Avenue

A man reported that someone shot the bottom of the windshield of his 1997 Ford Explorer with what appeared to be a BB gun during the overnight hours on Aug. 28.

The incident occurred in the 600 block of Deger Avenue.

Window Smashed on Second Avenue

A woman reported that someone smashed the back driver’s side window of her vehicle sometime between 7 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 1:12 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of Second Avenue.

Screens Ripped Out of Windows on Church Street

Someone ripped out three screens from windows at Phoenixville Baptist Church at 248 Church Street.

The crime was reported on Aug. 27 at 9:19 a.m.

Graffiti on Morgan Street

On Aug. 18 at 1:32 p.m., a woman reported that she discovered graffiti on a windowsill in the 300 block of Morgan Street.

The graffiti said “Bierbs.”

Vehicle Scratched on Lexington Drive

A man reported that overnight on Aug. 17 someone scratched his 2011 Ford Focus, which was parked in the 800 block of Lexington Avenue.

Management of the complex said that was the third incident of its kind in two weeks.

Vehicle Scratched on Starr Street

A woman reported that on the night of Aug. 16, someone scratched her vehicle, which was parked at the VFW on Starr Street.

Vehicles Keyed on Emmett Street

All of the following vehicles in the 300 block of Emmett Street were keyed. The damage was noticed shortly after 9 p.m. on Aug. 21:

  • A Hyundai Entourage was keyed from front to back.
  • Someone keyed a Chrysler PT Cruiser on the rear passenger side.
  • An officer noticed that a Saturn Vue had been keyed on the passenger side of the vehicle and notified the owner.
  • A blue Audi S4 had scratch marks on the passenger side, and police notified the owner.
  • An officer noted scratch marks on the rear passenger side of a Honda Civic, and the owner was notified.
  • A Honda Element had scratch marks on the passenger side panel and police notified the owner.
  • An owner reported that someone keyed his Volvo S40 on the passenger side from front to rear.

Six Vehicles Scratched on Emmett Street

A man reported that six vehicles, including two owned by him, had been scratched in the 100 block of Emmett Street.

The damage happened between Aug. 21 and Aug. 23. The incident was reported on Aug. 23 at 10:04 p.m.

Car Damaged in Hospital Parking Lot

Police arrived in the Phoenixville Hospital parking lot at 140 Nutt Road on Aug. 18 at 3:05 p.m. to find a white minivan parked with its front bumper against a Hyundai sedan’s rear bumper.

When the owner of the Hyundai moved his car forward, there was a small dent in the bumper.

Police tracked down the driver of the minivan and left a message for him to call police.

Wire Damages Car on Nutt Road

A wire snapped and fell on the hood of a 2001 Toyota Corolla in the 400 block of Nutt Road.

The damage was reported on Aug. 18 at 9:35 a.m. The wire put a dent in the hood of the Toyota.

Vehicle Struck by Paintballs on Cherry Street

A woman told police that her vehicle and her husband’s vehicle had been struck by green paintballs.

Both vehicles were parked in a parking lot next to the C building of Oakland Manor Apartments. Management of the complex told police they were aware of the problem.

The damage was reported on Aug. 17 at 7:47 a.m.

Rock Thrown Through Window on Overture Drive

A woman reported that someone threw a rock through a second-floor window of her home in the 2500 block of Overture Drive at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 29.

The woman had a suspect in mind.

Garage Spray Painted on Ann Street

A man reported that someone spray painted his detached garage in the 200 block of Ann Street at an unknown date and time.

The criminal mischief was reported on Aug. 29 at 2:09 p.m.

Spray Paint Reported on Franklin Avenue

A man reported that someone spray painted the word “BEDE” in black on his rear garage door in the 200 block of Franklin Avenue sometime before 9:18 a.m. on Aug. 30.

Spray Paint on St. Mary’s Street

An unknown person spray painted the word “BEDE” on a new stockade fence in the 100 block of St. Mary’s Street sometime before 9:50 a.m. on Aug. 30.

Criminal Trespass on Buchanan Street

A woman reported that two males walked into a back door of a home in the 200 block of Buchanan Street and turned on a light in a bathroom.

The two women at home at the time did not know the men and one of the woman yelled at them to leave, which they did. The incident occurred on Aug. 29 shortly before 4:15 a.m.

DUI on Bridge Street

Following a traffic stop, police arrested Sheri Wanson, 26, of Collegeville, for allegedly driving under the influence in the 500 block of Bridge Street on Aug. 30 shortly after midnight.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 3 in district court.

Public Drunkenness on High Street

Police received a report of a male staggering and getting into a car in the lot at Friendship Firehouse on High Street on Aug. 27 at 11:54 p.m.

Gary Singer, 48, of New York, was found passed out in his vehicle. He was cited for public drunkenness and transported to the place he was staying.

Public Drunkenness on Church Street

Steve Martin Jr., 24, of Phoenixville, was reportedly intoxicated and arguing with a woman at Phoenix Hose, Hook and Ladder Company on Church Street.

The incident happened in the emergency operations center, which was in place for Hurricane Irene on Aug. 28 at 1:32 a.m.

Martin was cited for public drunkenness.

Open Container on Bridge Street

On Aug. 20 at 11:50 a.m., an officer noticed three men standing around a black Ford Mustang coupe in the parking lot of Family Dollar at 321 Bridge St.

A man identified as Harry Shank, 21, put an open container of Natural Ice beer on the ground under the car, according to police.

Shank was cited for an open container violation.

Open Container on Bridge Street

According to a police report, Dennis Mullin Jr., 21, of Phoenixville, had an open can of Rolling Rock in the lot behind the Black Lab restaurant in the 200 block of Bridge Street on Aug. 26 at 10:55 p.m.

Mullin received a citation for an open container violation.

Open Container at Prospect and Bank Streets

According to a police report, Kathleen Ann Cook, 47, of Phoenixville, was walking near the intersection of Prospect and Bank streets with a pint glass containing an alcoholic beverage on Aug. 26 at 11:30 p.m.

Cook was cited for an open container violation.

Open Container on Prospect Street

Brett J. Clark Jr., 23, of Royersford, had a plastic cup containing beer in the 200 block of Prospect Street on Aug. 27 at 1:45 a.m., according to police.

Clark was cited for an open container violation.

Open Container on Prospect Street

Sean Moore, 22, of Pottstown, allegedly had an open bottle of Miller Lite beer in his back pocket in the 200 block of Prospect Street on Aug. 27 at 1:50 a.m.

Moore was cited for an open container violation.

Public Urination on Bike Trail

Police allegedly spotted Stephen Colburn, 20, of Phoenixville, urinating along the French Creek Bike Trail on Aug. 26 at 6:53 p.m.

He was cited for disorderly conduct.

Public Urination on Bridge Street

Police cited Oscar Lopez-Garcia, 35, of Phoenixville, for disorderly conduct after an officer allegedly spotted him urinating in the rear of 101 Bridge Street.

The incident occurred at 6:55 p.m. on Aug. 31.
