Phoenixville Woman Suing Camden Police Over Son's Death

According to the Courier-Post, a borough woman who says Camden police officers beat her son to death in 2007 will get her day in court.

Despite the protests of the city’s attorneys—who maintain that their officer used justified force the night of the August 18 incident—US District judge Robert Kugler ruled that Ginger Katzenmoyer, of Phoenixville, will get a chance to take her case before a jury.

Her case is this: According to court documents, Brett Katzenmoyer, 21, was at an OAR concert at the Camden Waterfront in August of 2007 when he a woman accused him of assault in the parking lot. Camden Police, according to the lawsuit, proceeded to handcuff him and beat him with nightsticks and punch him in the face.

(A security guard said he witnessed the punch and tried to intervene. Camden attorneys say he is not a credible witness.)

Four days after the incident, Ginger Katzenmoyer found her son unconscious. A day later he was declared dead.

The county coroner found that Katzenmoyer had suffered head injuries, but the man also tested positive for morphine and an anti-anxiety medication and had a blood alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit.
