A California man was arrested for assault over the weekend after he choked a woman and attempted to flee the scene of the crime, Phoenixville Police are reporting.
Jeremy Lee Thompson, 28, and a resident of El Cajon, California, was charged with two counts of simple assault and one count of harassment stemming from the September 22 incident.
According to court documents, police responded to the 200 block of Marshall Street at 2 a.m. that morning after they got report of a domestic in progress. When they arrived on the scene, they saw a man sprint out the back of the house. Officers took him into custody and identified him as Thompson.
After Thompson’s apprehension, a 27-year-old man who was at the house explained to police that he had heard Thompson choking a woman (it’s unclear what her relationship was to Thompson or the witness) and hid in the bathroom and called the police.
Officers noted red marks around the woman’s throat.
Thompson was arrested, arraigned, and released after he posted $1,000 cash bail. He faces preliminary hearing on September 27.
