Police: Drunk Driver Barreled Over Signs, Led Police on Short Chase

Police say the driver ignored orders to pull over.

A Phoenixville woman was arrested for DUI last week after East Pikeland Police say she ran over a pair of street signs and led them on a brief car chase.

Shonda Marie Gelormo, 29, faces charges of DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, accidental damage to unattended vehicle or property, reckless driving, careless driving, and criminal mischief stemming from the November 30 incident.

According to court documents, at 2:14 a.m. an East Pikeland Police officer witnessed Gelormo, driving a blue Ford Explorer, veer off the eastbound lane of Schuylkill Road in the area of Valley Forge Shopping Center and plow over a pair of road signs.

The officer put on his lights and siren to attempt to pull the driver over, but Gelormo ignored him, leading him on a brief pursuit that ended in her driveway on the unit block of Rosewood Lane.

“I’m home now. There’s no problem,” she reportedly told the officer as she exited the Explorer and walked towards her house, ignoring his command to return to her vehicle.

The officer stopped her and asked why she didn’t stop for his lights and siren after hitting the street signs. She said she had no idea what he was talking about and told him her ex-boyfriend was coming over to pick up tools.

The officer noted that she smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on her feet.

Gelormo took and failed three field sobriety tests and was taken to Phoenixville Area Hospital, where she refused to have her blood drawn for testing.

She faces preliminary hearing on January 10.
