Police: Drunk Man Smashed Truck Window at Barbecue

A friend offered to get him a ride home, and he broke his window, police say.

A Phoenixville man was arrested last weekend after he became intoxicated at a barbecue and deliberately broke the window of a fellow attendee's pickup truck, East Pikeland Police are reporting.

Michael Albrecht, 43, faces charges of criminal mischief and public drunkenness stemming from the September 22 incident.

According to court documents, that evening at 6:16 p.m., police responded to a barbecue on the 1000 block of Mowere Road for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, police were told that Albrecht had become inordinately drunk at the party, and, when a friend arranged for him to get a ride home in his truck, Albrecht broke a passenger side window of the vehicle.

By the time an East Pikeland officer arrived, Albrecht was unsteady on his feet—he repeatedly lost his balance—and his speech was slurred. East Vincent and Schuylkill Police eventually arrived to assist.

When police searched the man he became belligerent. He was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Police later wrote that he didn’t appear to understand what was happening.

The histrionics continued when the man was placed in the police car. He reportedly banged his head against the window and tried to break free from the restraints. He was taken to the Pottstown Police Department to be held overnight.

Albrecht faces preliminary hearing on November 1.
