Police: Gay Street Man Assaulted, Threatened to Shoot Wife

A Phoenixville man was arrested last week after police say he threatened his wife’s life before punching, choking, and strangling her in their Gay Street home.

Matthew Collins Green, 29, faces charges of simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person, and terroristic threats stemming from the December 29 incident.

According to court documents, Phoenixville Police were dispatched to the unit block of Gay Street at 7:41 a.m. for a reported domestic assault in progress.

At the scene, Green’s wife, who had a bruised cheek, explained to police that her husband had started an argument with her that morning.

She locked herself in the bathroom to avoid the confrontation, but when she emerged from the room Green was waiting for her: he proceeded, she said, to punch her in the head twice, choke her until she lost consciousness (he also, she added, took pictures of her with a cellphone while she was passed out), and grab her buy the hair and drag her across the floor.

The victim said that Green, the previous day, had told her “I wish I could shoot you in the head, but I’d regret it later.” Green, she said, owns a handgun.

Green was arrested, arraigned, and confined to Chester County Prison when he was unable to post bail. He has a preliminary hearing on January 3.
