Police: Gay Street Man Assaulted, Threatened to Shoot Wife

The victim told police her husband choked her until she lost consciousness, then took pictures of her with his phone.

A Phoenixville man was arrested last week after police say he threatened his wife’s life before punching, choking, and strangling her in their Gay Street home.

Matthew Collins Green, 29, faces charges of simple assault, harassment, recklessly endangering another person, and terroristic threats stemming from the December 29 incident.

According to court documents, Phoenixville Police were dispatched to the unit block of Gay Street at 7:41 a.m. for a reported domestic assault in progress.

At the scene, Green’s wife, who had a bruised cheek, explained to police that her husband had started an argument with her that morning.

She locked herself in the bathroom to avoid the confrontation, but when she emerged from the room Green was waiting for her: he proceeded, she said, to punch her in the head twice, choke her until she lost consciousness (he also, she added, took pictures of her with a cellphone while she was passed out), and grab her buy the hair and drag her across the floor.

The victim said that Green, the previous day, had told her “I wish I could shoot you in the head, but I’d regret it later.” Green, she said, owns a handgun.

Green was arrested, arraigned, and confined to Chester County Prison when he was unable to post bail. He has a preliminary hearing on January 3.

The wording of this headline is a little off. Was it a gay street man or a man that lives on gay street?

why only mention "unit block of Gay Street" What unit block? I live one block off of Gay St. and would like to know where this occurred so I can avoid this man if and when he gets release. Thank you.

Typically, "unit block" refers to addresses between 0-99. Hope that helps you.

Love reading your insightful comments, harry. I also love how commenting on stories in a town you moved away from seems to fill your life. No hobbies in your new town?

Hope this woman take's advantage of the resources available to help " battered " women get away from the abuser. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that she will be safe. Even with PFA order's these creep's will find a way to continue to assault their victims, sad. BTW I can accept , and even expect grammatical error's in the comment's , but the reporter !! NO......." he grabbed hey "BUY" the hair......c'mon.

Ok, Ok, See.....none of us are perfect. But, there IS a difference between a typographical error and a grammatical error. A "typo" can happen to anyone, A "grammatical" should NOT occur if you are in the business of reporting. In the above....."hey "should have been her, not hey......but," buy" the hair is unacceptical. Lesson of the day. LOL
