Police ID Body Recovered from Schuylkill

Police have identified the body of the man recovered from the Schuylkill River near Riverfront Park in Norristown on Monday, November 19, as Carlos Enrique Velasco, of Guatemala.

Norristown Police Chief Russel Bono confirmed the late 20-something year-old man had been drinking heavily the night before he was found. On Tuesday evening, Chief Bono said police were still awaiting the results of an autopsy from the Montgomery County Coroner's office. 

"Our investigation led us to learn that he was drinking, rather heavily, with friends at the location Saturday night, and he was reportedly so drunk that his friends left him there to sleep it off," Chief Bono told The Times Herald. "From there, we’re not sure what happened, whether he fell in or what."

According to the Herald, Velasco was living in Norristown on the 600 block of Corson Street.

Velasco's body was discovered floating in the river at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday  by a Pennsylvania game warden who alerted authorities. Teams of police investigators, county detectives and fire department rescue workers secured the scene around a wooded path to the location of the body. The body was eventually recovered and transported to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.
