Police: Man Arrested for DUI After Main Street Hit-and-Run

Phoenixville Police say the accident occurred in the early morning hours of December 29.

A Phoenixville man was arrested for DUI late last month after he struck a parked car in the borough and fled the scene, police are reporting.

According to court documents, Ulicer Lopez Chilel, 21, drove his black Ford Focus into a vehicle in the area of Main Street and Second Avenue on December 29 sometime before 5:40 a.m.

A witness called Phoenixville Police and followed Lopez Chilele onto Church Street and into the parking lot, where he pointed the defendent out to the officer.

During the subsequent stop, Lopez Chilel betrayed signs of intoxication: the officer said he smelled like alcohol and swayed back and forth on his feet while he stood.

Though he was unable to submit to field sobriety testing due to a language barrier, he took and failed a portable breathalyzer test and, later, through a translator, agreed to have blood drawn for testing at Phoenixville Hospital.
