Police: Man Assaulted Officer After Fight in Downtown Club

Andre Lamont Cash, 26, of Pottstown, was arrested after an alleged melee at Club 212.

A Pottstown man faces a charge of aggravated assault along with other offenses after he allegedly fought with security personnel and then kicked a police officer at a Phoenixville club over the weekend.

Andre Lamont Cash, 26, of Pottstown, is free on $2,500 unsecured bail after being arrested early Sunday morning at Club 212, located at 212 Bridge St. in Phoenixville. District Judge Matthew Seavey arraigned Cash on Sunday morning.

According to an affidavit filed by Officer Sean Knapp of the Phoenixville Police Department, he was on duty on Jan. 8 at approximately 1:46 a.m. when he saw Cash fighting with three security guards from the club. The trio of security guards and Cash all went to the ground as Cash continued to fight, Knapp wrote in the criminal complaint.

Knapp stepped in and handcuffed Cash, who allegedly kept fighting and refused to get into the police car.

“After finally getting the defendant seated in the car, he refused to put his legs in the vehicle and did kick [the officer] four to five times in the chest while I attempted to lift his legs up so I could shut the car door,” Knapp wrote.

Earlier in the night, Cash had been kicked out of Club 212 for allegedly being intoxicated and pushing others at the club.

After police took Cash to the police station, they allegedly found a white balled up tissue in his possession, and the tissue contained a substance that field-tested positive for marijuana.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12 in front of District Judge Susann E. Welsh in Phoenixville. In addition to aggravated assault, Cash is charged with four counts of simple assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug possession, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
