Police: Man Charged with DUI After Walnut Street Hit-and-Run

Police say he ultimately returned to the scene of the accident on foot.

A Pottstown man was charged with DUI last week after police say he crashed into a parked car in the borough and left the scene before returning on foot.

In addition to four counts of DUI, Daniel J. Martin, 38, was charged with accidental damage to unattended vehicle or property.

According to court documents, on December 5 at 7:09 p.m., a Phoenixville Police officer was dispatched to the unit block of E. Walnut Street for a reported hit-and-run.

A witness told the officer that he saw a silver SUV strike a car parked in a lot on the corner of Jackson Street and Walnut Street before fleeing.

While the officer was speaking to the owner of the car that had been hit, the driver, Martin, returned to the scene on foot. The officer recognized Martin, as he drove by the scene in a silver Mountaineer.

The officer, in conversation with Martin, noted that he smelled like alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated. Martin admitted that he’d been drinking that night, and further copped to hitting the parked car.

Daniel J. Martin faces preliminary hearing on January 10.
