Police: Woman Was Drunk, On Cellphone When She Caused Crash

Carolyn DeCarlo, 46, faces four counts of DUI.

A Phoenixville woman was both drunk and on her cellphone when she caused a car accident on Fourth Avenue last week, Phoenixville Police are reporting.

Carolyn DeCarlo, 46, stands charged with four counts of DUI and careless driving stemming from the October 5 crash.

According to court documents, at 10:06 p.m. that evening police responded to a two-car accident on the 100 block of Fourth Avenue involving a Honda Accord and a Dodge Caravan.

The driver of the Honda, DeCarlo, told police that she was talking on her cellphone when she lost control of the vehicle and crashed. During this explanation, police noticed an odor of alcohol on her breath. She admitted to drinking that night, but wouldn’t specify how many drinks she had. According to the affidavit, police said she had red, glassy eyes as well.

DeCarlo consented to take field sobriety tests, the results of which convinced the officer who administered them that she was unable to safely drive. She was placed under arrest for DUI and taken to Phoenixville Hospital to have blood drawn for testing.

DeCarlo faces preliminary hearing on November 15.

What is the matter with people? Drink and drive once, you lose your license for ten years. Twice, forever. Are we just waiting for them to kill someone?
