State Police: Man Arrested for DUI After Falling Asleep at Wheel

He was allegedly slumped over the wheel, the car running and in drive, when EMS personnel found him.

A Malvern man was arrested in Charlestown Township on Sunday after he fell asleep at the wheel of his running car, state police are reporting.

Frank Anthony Cocco, 25, was charged with two counts of DUI, operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, and careless driving stemming from the October 14 incident.

According to court documents, at 1:29 a.m., a state trooper responded to the area of Pickering Dam Road and Charlestown Road for a report of a man passed out behind the wheel of his car.

When the trooper arrived at the scene, a West End paramedic who preceded him explained that he had found Cocco unconscious, slumped over the wheel of his unregistered Dodge Stratus. The EMT added that not only was the vehicle running, but it was in drive. Cocco’s foot was on the brake.

Cocco, after he was awoken, explained that he was on the way home from a friend’s house when he became tired and fell asleep. The trooper noted his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.

Cocco consented to take field sobriety tests, the results of which the trooper determined were indicative of intoxication.

Cocco was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and taken to Chester County Hospital to have blood drawn for testing. He faces preliminary hearing on November 15.
