Weekend Car Accident Leaves Man, 29, Seriously Injured

Joseph Yosko was a passenger in a car that struck a tree near the intersection of Franklin and High streets.

A 29-year-old man was helivaced out of the borough early Saturday morning after the car he was a passenger in struck a tree and flipped. The driver is suspected of DUI.

According to Phoenixville Police Chief William Mossman, Joseph Yosko was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia after sustaining serious injuries in the crash. The car's driver, 23-year-old Sean Brophy, was treated for comparatively minor injuries at Paoli Memorial Hospital.

Mossman said that on July 28 at approximately 12:45 a.m., Yosko and Brophy were speeding down Franklin Street in Brophy’s Hyundai when the car struck a tree on the corner of High Street and Franklin; knocking the tree over and causing the car to roll several times.

The chief said Brophy, who was driving 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, explained to authorities that he didn’t anticipate the curve in the road, and so barreled straight into the tree.

Mossman added that while the results of the department’s investigation won’t be available for several days, Brophy is suspected of DUI.
