Woman Admits to Barbell Assault That Hospitalized Senior Citizen

It took seven staples to close her victim's wound.

Despite turning down a similar plea deal earlier in the week, a Spring City woman copped to charges that she struck a man in the head with a barbell during a June robbery, The Mercury is reporting.

Though the June 13 crime occurred in Royersford, Donna Lynn Spencer, 45, was eventually apprehended in Phoenixville.

According to the paper, Spencer admitted to the crime after her defense attorney and the Montgomery County assistant DA worked out a deal that would put the woman in prison for 2 1/1 to six years.

Spencer also admitted to, and was sentenced for, a 2010 theft of a home she was hired to clean in Limerick.

Spencer was arrested for the assault on June 13. According to Limerick Patch, authorities were called to Royersford retirement facility Golden Age Manor at 11:30 a.m. after police say Spencer arrived to ask her eventual victim for a small loan. When the man refused, Spencer allegedly cracked him in the head with a 25-pound dumbbell, stole $500, and fled the scene.
