Woman Charged in 'Hit and Walk' Accident

Police release bizarre details of what happened after police say a woman struck a car outside a Phoenixville Pharmacy.

 

A 60-year-old Phoenixville woman faces DUI charges after an accident in the parking lot of the Gateway Pharmacy in Phoenixville.

In an affidavit of probable cause filed in District Court, police say the woman hit another car in the parking lot and then went in to the store to pick up a prescription. The incident occured at 1 p.m. on May 16.

Police say they found the woman lying on the floor in the pharmacy area of the store. An officer had gone to the store following a radio call about a woman who had fallen in the store.

According to court documents, the woman agreed to a portable breath test while she was in the ambulance but before she was taken to Phoenixville Hospital for treatment related to the fall. Police say the woman had admitted to having two drinks. Police say the portable breathalyzer test "indicated a positive reading for the presence of alcohol."

Police say that a witnesses to the crash told officers that the woman who hit the other car made no attempt to find the driver, but rather just went into the drugstore. According to the affidavit, the driver whose car was hit in the parking lot found out about it when an announcement looking for the car's owner was made over the store's public address system.
