$4.2 Million Expansion of Route 29 Starts Tuesday
The project will increase the road from two lanes to four in certain areas.
PennDOT will begin its $4.2 million expansion of Route 29 on Tuesday, according to a report in The Mercury.
The road, which is traversed by 15,000 vehicles each day, a number that stands to increase when the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Route 29 Interchange is completed in fall 2012, will have two additional lanes added between Yellow Springs Road and Phoenixville Pike. Five-foot shoulders will be added as well.
Workers will begin by clearing vegetation from the side of the road and installing filter bags inside drainage inlets. The project will eventually require lane closures, during which a single lane will remain open. Backups are expected.

Construction will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and is expected to continue through June of 2014.
State senator Andy Dinniman (D-19) , once completed, will constitute a significant improvement for local commuters.

“The widening and improvement of Route 29 and surrounding roads goes hand-in-hand with the construction of the Route 29 slip-ramp project, a new all-electronic interchange linking Route 29 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike,” the legislator said.
“These projects represent a major transportation improvement to this region, not only by providing shorter, safer commutes, but also by bolstering economic development and job growth.”
