UPDATE: Corbett Signs Budget, Vetoes $72M in Spending

Corbett had refused to sign the budget on June 30.

Gov. Tom Corbett on Thursday morning finally signed Pennsylvania's 2014-15 fiscal year budget, ending days of waiting and wondering.

Corbett on June 30 refused to sign the $29.1 billion budget passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

Signed Thursday were House Bill 2328, the 2014-15 state budget, and House Bill 278, the 2014-15 fiscal code.

Corbett line-item vetoed about $72 million in spending, the Governor's Office said.

Gubernatorial line-item vetoes can be overridden by a two-thirds majority vote in each of the two houses of the General Assembly.

Corbett again mentioned his concerns about the state's pension system.

“I ask the citizens of Pennsylvania to join in this fight and demand that the legislature address the most important fiscal challenge facing Pennsylvania," he said. "Today, we spend 63 cents of each and every new tax dollar that comes into the state on pension costs. This is absolutely unsustainable, and it is devouring our state’s budget."
