Corbett PAC Gets Illegal $1M Donation

Casino owners cannot make political donations in Pennsylvania.

A political action committee supporting Gov. Tom Corbett's re-election campaign has received a hefty $1 million donation -- but they can't use it.

The money was donated by Sheldon Adelson, CEO of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., to the Republican Governor's Association, The Daily News reported

The RGA is headed by N.J. Gov. Chris Christie.

Casinos are barred from making political contributions for candidates seeking state office under Pennsylvania gaming law, a fact that the Sands Corp. told The Daily News it noted when making the donation to the RGA.

But the RGA gave nearly all of the money -- $987,844, The Daily News said -- to RGA Pennsylvania 2014 PAC, which supports Corbett.

The money was withdrawn once the mistake was pointed out, The Daily News said.

Corbett's re-election efforts have received about $1.8 million in legal donations from the RGA since December 2013.
