Danco Inc. Hit with $55K in Fines for Safety Violations

OSHA determined the company put its employees at serious risk.

Danco Precision Inc., the Phoenixville-based machine part manufacturer, faces $55,000 in fines from the Department of Labor for a host of safety violations the agency discovered this spring, The Mercury is reporting.

Danco, which employs 40, was found to be in violation of 14 items of safety code during OSHA’s March inspection. The violations were announced on Thursday, and the company has 15 business days to either get in compliance or contest the citations.

“These violations pose serious risks to Danco Precision’s workers and must be corrected immediately,” Albert D’Imperio, OSHA’s Philadelphia director, told the paper. He added the agency will hold Danco, as they do all companies, legally responsible for their work conditions.

A Danco representative reportedly declined to comment on the violations.

OSHA identified 13 serious violations—a “serious” violation defined as a hazard the employer should know about that creates a substantial probability of death or serious harm to employees—and one additional violation.

According to the paper, the violations were:

Failing to control potentially hazardous energy, have and implement a hazard communication plan that includes employee training, provide barriers to protect employees from falls, conduct a personal protective equipment assessment and provide protective equipment for various operations, provide and certify powered industrial truck training, provide hand tools to clear machine scraps, provide material safety data sheets, implement die-setting procedures, inspect alloy steel slings, address deficiencies with mechanical power presses including a lack of proper guarding, use safety blocks when setting dies, perform inspections of all presses and properly label containers of chemicals.
