East Pikeland Receives $54K for Recycling Efforts

The 2009 grant awards were just announced.

State Sen. Andy Dinniman announced recently that four Chester County municipalities and the Central Chester Solid Waste Authority will receive a total of $111,754 in Recycling Performance Grants.

 “Recycling is a simple and efficient way to protect the environment, conserve energy and reduce waste,” Dinniman said.  “Chester County and its municipalities have come a long way in encouraging recycling and re-using materials, and we can continue to do more. These grants are a great incentive to ensure that we do.”

The grants, which are based on the amount recycled and the municipality’s population in 2009, were awarded as follows:

  • East Pikeland Township will receive $53,804 for 1,553.3 tons recycled.
  • East Caln Township will receive $26,067 for 1,519 tons recycled.
  • Spring City Borough will receive $2,965 for 221.6 tons recycled.
  • Willistown Township will receive $25,850 for 1,252.5 tons recycled. 
  • The Chester County Solid Waste Authority will receive $3,068 for 287.1 tons recycled.

The grants come through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program.  The program provides incentives to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling.
