Food Banned at Pa. Funeral Homes (Again)

A federal appeals court this week reversed a 2012 ruling, reinstating a food ban at Pennsylvania funeral homes.

Food service at Pennsylvania funeral homes has been banned —again.

The ban originally was part of a 1952 food safety ruling, but was overturned in 2012 by a federal judge who deemed it unconstitutional, CBS reported.

The ruling was overturned yet again this week, when a federal appeals court reversed the 2012 ruling.

During the time that food service in funeral homes was legal in the commonwealth, funeral homes would often arrange luncheons and similar events to follow funerals not being held at churches or other religious buildings, CBS said.

Those arrangements are now illegal again.
