Kyle Guie Resigns from Borough Council

The vacant middle ward representative seat will be filled before the July 10 meeting.

The Phoenixville borough council, reluctantly, accepted the resignation of middle ward representative Kyle Guie on June 12.

Guie, who announced his intention to leave the council at a special meeting on May 29 and will vacate the position effective June 30, said the drive to his new job in Lancaster was wearing on him.

“The commute was becoming unbearable,” Guie in an email to The Mercury. “[So] I have decided to make the tough decision to resign and move to Lancaster City.”

The council’s president said Guie, who served for six months after taking over for Marc Reber in January, will be missed.

“Our loss is Lancaster’s gain,” said Richard Kirkner before asking if the body could, officially, accept Guie’s resignation “with regret.”

The borough will conduct interviews to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on July 10 at 6 p.m., an hour before the first regular meeting council is scheduled to hold without Guie. The position is expected to be filled before the 7 p.m. meeting.

I know life happens, but you shouldn't run for the seat if you're not committed to fulfill the term in office.

Michael H-you shouldn't make comments if you don't know the circumstances. He lives here, but travels an hour away for work-so he is moving closer to his job. The seat is open-interested in filling it?

Kyle received his job in Lancaster shortly after he joined Council. He tried to stick it out as long as he could. I don’t think most people realize how many meetings beyond Borough Council the job involves. Kyle was an asset on Council he was levelheaded, thoughtful, and well spoken. He will be truly missed.

How do I go about applying for this position on the council? All that is mentioned is that interviews will be held 1 hour prior to the normal concil meeting.

The last time there was a resignation it was stated "Those interested in the position can contact the borough manager at 610-933-8801".

Agreed, that is why Sarah Palin is so despicable. Took the money and quit. To hell with her supporters and campaign volunteers.

Tony, how does one go about researching the position to establish ones qualifications with regard to availability as well as ability?

Sad to hear Kyle Guie is leaving Borough Council. He was a great councilman who always listened to anyone who needed help in the middle ward. Really sad to see him go. Really quite a few others should resign.

Thank you to all of my supporters during my campaign and my half year on Council. It has been a great pleasure serving the residents of Phoenixville. I'm sad to leave but Phoenixville is in great hands with our current Council and our top notch Borough Manager. I'm looking forward to reading the Patch to keep up to speed about all the exciting projects in town. To all the Patch complainers and nay-sayers, now is your time to get involved in government and actually do something. Anyone interested in applying for my vacant position should submit a resume and application to Jean Krack, ejkrack@phoenixville.org.

Typical Kyle style, he leaves us with an excellent message to try to convert some of the negative energy into positive! Kyle you are missed on the Planning Commission and now will be missed by Council but you served the borough well. Lancaster is gaining a fair, forward thinking resident.
