The Phoenixville borough council, reluctantly, accepted the resignation of middle ward representative Kyle Guie on June 12.
Guie, who announced his intention to leave the council at a special meeting on May 29 and will vacate the position effective June 30, said the drive to his new job in Lancaster was wearing on him.
“The commute was becoming unbearable,” Guie in an email to The Mercury. “[So] I have decided to make the tough decision to resign and move to Lancaster City.”
The council’s president said Guie, who served for six months after taking over for Marc Reber in January, will be missed.
“Our loss is Lancaster’s gain,” said Richard Kirkner before asking if the body could, officially, accept Guie’s resignation “with regret.”
The borough will conduct interviews to fill the vacancy at a special meeting on July 10 at 6 p.m., an hour before the first regular meeting council is scheduled to hold without Guie. The position is expected to be filled before the 7 p.m. meeting.
